COVID-19

Result type: Qualitative

COVID-19 is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Infection with the virus can range from being asymptomatic to life-threatening respiratory illness. Symptoms associated with COVID-19 include cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fever, chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, or new loss of taste or smell.

Our Coronavirus Test (COVID-19) requires a gentle lower nasal swab which is collected at home. The sample is analyzed in our lab using gold-standard RT-PCR/TMA to confirm the presence of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. The test kit comes with a UPS next day air return shipping label to send the sample back to our lab.

Result ranges

PositiveNegative
This is a positive coronavirus test result. The patient has tested positive for the form of coronavirus that causes COVID-19.This is a negative coronavirus test result. The patient has tested negative for the form of coronavirus that causes COVID-19.

Incomplete Results

Note: Inconclusive, Aged, Compromised, and Clotted test results do not display on patient-facing material, all are provided with an ‘inconclusive’ narrative with details, communicated by a nurse on a call.

Test ResultsDescription
Insufficient specimenThis can occur if there is not enough biological material collected on the swab or if there is not enough solution present in the vial. It is not possible to determine if the patient has the strain of coronavirus that causes COVID-19.
AgedThe test result has been returned as Aged Specimen. It is not possible to determine if the patient has the strain of coronavirus that causes COVID-19.
CompromisedIt is not possible to determine if the patient has the strain of coronavirus that causes COVID-19. Additional information regarding the reason for the compromised specimen can be found on the patient’s lab report.
InconclusiveIt is not possible to determine if the patient has the strain of coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) which leads to the development of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19). LetsGetChecked recommends that the patient repeats the test.
ClottedThis occurs when mucous or too much blood is present on the swab preventing the sample from being analyzed. It is not possible to determine if the patient has the strain of coronavirus that causes COVID-19.
